Common Types of Ringtones
Ringtones are classified into three types, namely the monophonic ringtones, polyphonic ringtones and True tones or real tones. There are millions of ringtones available these days. A user needs to understand the differences between these categories and which type of ringtones suit his or her mobile phone. Making yourself familiarized with the different types is essential so that it will save you unnecessary problems and fuss, especially the cost and time, while trying to download a melody for a cell phone. Otherwise the melody you downloaded may not sound like something you expected and this can lead to dissatisfaction and heartburn.
The simplest type of ringtone is the monophonic ones. They comprise a series of tones or beeps with different frequencies arranged in sequence. The best feature of this type of ringtone is that they are compatible with most of the mobile phones available in the market. The texture is simple with just one note at a time and consists of melody without the accompanying harmony. The same note may be repeated also. Monophonic melodies sound like the beeping of a computer. Most of the older mobile phones are capable of playing this type of ringtones only.
Polyphonic ringtones are one step over the monophonic ones as they can produce up to 40 separate sounds or notes at one time which will create a very harmonic melody, and the tone would sound like music. All the latest models support polyphonic melodies. These days, every leading company is manufacturing mobile phones with the ability to play polyphonic melodies. The only major draw back of polyphonic tones is that they lack the ability to use digitalized audio samples.
True tones or Real tones as it is sometimes called, is a major improvement over polyphonic melodies. They are simply audio recordings of almost all types including MP3, AAC, or WMA formats and represents the latest evolution of the ring tone. It gives the user facility to use actual voices, music, and real-life sounds like the droning of a bee, the roaring of the waves and the soothing murmur of wind in the leaves. Nowadays, Real tones can also be customized using sing along facility where your voice can be combined with the music of a favorite song. This is called “singtones”. Here, a music lover can buy or download a song online and after listening, sing the lyrics in the phone and the service provider will provide a karaoke version of the melody. Unlike the manufactured sounds in monophonic and polyphonic versions, real tones have original voices and instruments. Some manufacturers are producing mobile phones which can play MP3 ringtones for incoming calls which will help you to hear original songs sung by artists whenever a call comes in.
True tones are also known as “mastertone”, “superphonic melody” or “audio recording”. This latest evolution has become a rage among masses and one can hear all sort of original sounds emitting from the latest cell phones.
It’s not like it’s five years ago
Lately you’re over my body
Is that just the place that I want you to be
Look at the pictures you’ve gotten
Like signals from oncoming cars
We’re covered in cake from the last time
I know it sounds weird we collect it in jars
Is that just the place that I wanna be
(Oh can’t you see, it’s a life I don’t need)
(Please don’t make this thing happen to me)
The way that I wanna be
Driving in style with a smile on
I wish the light could turn red on me now
The day’s been so damn hard already
So buckle me in on the highway of sin
‘Cause that’s just the way that I wanna be
(Oh can’t you see, it’s a life I don’t need)
(Please don’t make this thing happen to me)
The way that I wanna be
Is that just the way
Is that just the way
All uncovered
Is that just the way
Driving in style with a smile on
I wish the light could turn red on me now
The day’s been so damn hard already
So buckle me in on the highway of sin
‘Cause that’s just the way that I wanna be
Is that just the way
Is that just the way
All uncovered
Is that just the way
